The Senior, Pensioner and Carer Concession was introduced on 4 May 2010 to assist eligible senior citizens, pensioners and carers who are not first home owners to acquire a home under the value of $750,0000 or land under $385,000 on which to build a home by reducing the stamp duty that would otherwise be payable.
You may be eligible for the concession, if you meet the following criteria:
- at least one applicant is over 60 years or the holder of a Northern Territory Pensioner and Carer Concession Card; and
- you are buyer the whole of the property in your own right; and
- you will be living in the property within 12 months for a continuous period of 6 months. *Note that if you are building on land, the period changes.
This application is normally made through your Conveyancer and will reduce the stamp duty payable at settlement. You need to supply evidence of your age or concession with your application.
